So this week its all on in my local area.
An international beer company has let itself be distracted from sport for a second and is running a little competition for DJ's.
Now last week, I got off on shooting at my toes. This week I want to make it up by cutting off my foot so I can fit it in my mouth. However pending the outcome of your desire for truth, justice and a blind eye, I might just get away with it.
First up, it really was a whole pile of birthday in my local area. Now its always strange when a club has a birthday cause you turn up expecting a free drink, while the club expects too charge you more for a regular night.
It wasn't the case this way though, so super shouts out to Debajo & Subculture in QT. One a little older than the other, still both fresh spaces with commitment to music and mayhem. So yea, many more .. . superb celebration.
Back to the mission a hand though.
This business of the Dj competition. How do you say found at 'thirst'? I can certainly see the abstract relationship but should I buy it. Personally I think it is very interesting that a multinational uses the talent of the local dance scene as a marketing vehicle.
These are not new ideas of course, its just that our little dance culture has never really experienced so much attention. Despite my politic though, the focus really is on the individuals involved in the competition. I know a few of the peeps who are entering the event this year, and the tension is high. In this context it's hard to tear the label off the product because the participation level is real to the max.
Still when you consider the profile potential gained by entering such events, and the possibility to receive $$ and kudos all in one foul swoop then these are opportunities not to be taken lightly.
Many a Dj in this Country have used a certain 'corporate' Academy to justify and boost their career in the scene. Also don't forget selling beer really is the primary roll of a club Dj. So all in all we shouldn't really be outside our comfort zone.
Still i can't help but feel this strange sense of being lead down a path, but hey I can shake it all off to rally support to the skills and thrill of our local talent going head to head in production style and presentation.
So mostly and firstly 'good luck' to all the contestants. Look forward to seeing the meltdown and finding the one who is worthy to meet Pete.
Meanwhile please don't think that size matters. Redline rounded up their second Rumble in WGT this past week, a totally self made competition buried deep into the context of the WGT.
Yea well ' that is said and really the important question on our minds should be 'who wins?' Once you figure it out support those people.
