not buying it

I got reasonably rinsed out the other week for not setting up the turntables at a party. Justifiably the DJ was disappointed because their whole set was ruined by this fact, despite them playing a killer set off CD.

All is fair in raving and sound systems but it did make me consider something. When did we cross the line to having more CD Dj's than vinyl Dj's? At this recent party only two performers out of twelve were playing vinyl, in fact three performers were playing genuine live sets.

I remember a time when I used to set up the turntables for parties and then have to move them during the event when some Dj turned up with their own CD decks. Is it really time to put the 1200's in the back cupboard and pull them out for only those classic Dj's?

I know there is some deep romance with vinyl and that some people claim the only true way to Dj heaven in through vinyl but I'm just not buying it any more, literally!

While I miss the past too, what I don't understand is why vinyl addicts are schooling me on virtues that are actually just vanities. The message is in the music not the medium.
