1200s in Motion
My pick for this week has to be True People - the Detroit Techno Album. It's out on React - A five slab set in a black box. Contains tracks by some of the true innovators of the Motor City techno sound - Juan Atkins, Derrick May, Alan Oldham, and an absolutely beautiful, haunting track - Davey Jones Locker - by Drexciya.
Also pick up anything on Reflective Records - especially the Subtropic album by Space Time Continuum.
Compulsory radio frequency is The Navigator Zero and OMR's show The Outlands - alternating with Tjaden's Sinewaves - Thursdays on Active 89FM (11pm - 1am). Smooth Detroit and affiliated sounds from these vinyl explorers.
Also check out Troubadour Records top 12 and the somewhat minimal Producer Section.
Playlists from Gigging djs around the city.
Tjadens top 10 in no particular disorder
Ron Williams - Head in the Clouds #012A fantastic electronic colage of sounds in true midwest style from some one who is as nutty about his gear as his music is. A must get!
Neill Landstrumm - Brown by August LP - Peacefrog
An album worth checking out if your'e into mad frquencies and shuffling hihats. Help with by Christian Vogel this guy does rock. Still availible around Wellington.
Robert Armani - Blow it out - Ital. A.C.V
Every new album this guy puts out just gets better and better. Best track would have to be Blow that shit out for pure Armani rawness also with Joey Beltram & Dave Angel Rmxs. Essential Chicago Techno.
Chris Sattinger - Thinkless thoughts - Synewave N.Y. Chris Sattinger seems to be the Neill Landstrumm of the U.S but here shows us he also has a flare fo making more refined tracks like Butterfly skull on the a side going through to synewave style techno on the b. Check him out also on Head in the clouds under several different names.
M-Chrome - Cosmic Traveller E.P. - Generator #019
I don't know who the f..k this is but these guys really kik shit. Four really sik tracks in a style that leaves you fealing warm and fuzzy my faves are "jump into space" and "cybercore" if you see it buy it and buy me another copy as well!
Detroit Diesel - Moto-r E.P. - Finnish Dum #018
Kim Rappatti warping everything with wierdness following a 2nd release on Thomas Heckmanns Trope Label and his last Mono junk dblpack on dum#017. This goes even wierder but still punishes a dancefloor pick of the 12" has to be Moto-R.
Beverly Hills 808303 vs. Auto Kinetic - Electric Music Foundation.
A release on the presently touring Freddie Fresh's label see's co founders Auto Kinetic Droping serious skank. Techno through to distorted trip hop in classic mid-west style and on blue vinyl too. Wow?!
Steve Lazard - ACzent 7" - Element 106
A wicked little white disk with two tracks that are fairly basic minimal patterns but still good fun.
Muscle Bound - Head in the Clouds #006
Woody McBrides sub label puts out an interesting dbl 7" with Steve Stoll, Mystic Garden, Acid an Jam, Dan Eben, and Boba Flux. Best track has to be Dan Ebens Permanent3.
Lets Get Freaky - Communique #017
