A total all-star cast, nuvonesia is a new hip hop phenomenon hitting nz for the first time. its name derived from 'nouveau' and 'polynesia', nuvonesia is the sound of hawaiian mc imon star, legendary turntablist manuel bundy and jazz-beats producer mark de clive-lowe.

after a debut nz gig in auckland in late february, nuvonesia recorded their debut album, 'island of nuvonesia', due for release internationally mid-2000. with its roots firmly embedded in hip hop culture, nuvonesia blends in jazz, drum'n'bass, house and more for a sound that is totally unique. nuvonesia's first radio single 'smack delicious' goes to b-net stations late march 2000. a sneak preview rough-mix track 'mr mumra' has gone online at http://mp3.com/nuvonesia

imon star is a lyrical master. a new-breed MC twisting rhymes on the mic like no-one before him. jumping from hip hop to ragga-style drum'n'bass to deep house mc-ing, imon star takes the nuvonesia sound to the next level. born in berkley california, raised in kauai hawaii, and set loose upon the unsuspecting planet from london to boston to aukland to wellington and the sightings just keep adding up. imon star is without doubt, one of the next major innovators in global hip hop culture. someone who has to be seen in action to be believed.

manuel bundy is simply put, the most talented and creative turntablist the southern hemisphere has ever seen. a master of the technics 1200s, manuel has dropped sets that seemlessly blend tempos, styles, genres and flavours to a level rarely seen in nz. he has been an integral part of mark's six degrees project, nathan haines' projects and the new loungehead. now he is one third of the most exciting hip hop project to emerge from nz - nuvonesia.

nuvonesia's debut album 'the island of nuvonesia' crosses the boundaries of what is traditionally defined as hip hop with massive jazz influence, deep house and drum'n'bass sneaking into the mix. featuring the tracks smack delicious, rhyme flow vibration, transcontinental and interdimensional, mr mumra and more, the island of nuvonesia is set to be a global underground classic. the album will be released mid-2000 on a yet-to-be-confirmed US label.
