NZ Music: Going Global
Mark De Clive-Lowe's Six Degrees (universal UK)

originally released in NZ by kog transmissions less than a year ago, mark's eclectic-beats jazz concept album SIX DEGREES is about to go global with release on universal UK, 22.05.2000.

current reviews in DJ, touch, wax and seven magazines have touted the album as a new step in futurejazz, blending jazz spirit and club vibes. 'el dia perfecto' is already becoming a club classic for jazz-tinged dancefloors through europe and the uk, and has even been heard grooving its brazillian beats on the main floor at london's ministry of sound club.

"... call it nu-jazz, call it nu-house, call it future-jazz - in fact, call it what you want. I'm sticking with the words 'awesome' and 'genius'..." 9/10 wax magazine may 2000

"... heavyweight groove with a baad dose of urban beats n scratches ..." 5/5 DJ magazine 6-19 may 2000

the three track album sampler 12" (featuring 'el dia perfecto', 'cosmic echoes' and 'melodious funk' instrumental) has been on promo for a month and is already a club-play favourite for the likes of kruder & dorfmeister, rainer truby, ashley beedle, norman jay, mixmaster morris, japan's kyoto jazz massive and many others. tracks have been featured on UK radio shows by 4hero, phil asher (restless soul), patrick forge (da lata), ross allen (island blue) and jazzFM. appearing on DJ charts in magazines around the world, the album sampler is getting people hungry to hear more.

for the first time, SIX DEGREES will be available on vinyl - a welcome evolution for NZ fans who never had the chance to get the tracks on wax before. in addition to the vinyl (complete with the original artwork finally full size), the new CD-release features re-recorded king kapisi vocals on 'melodious funk'.

following the UK launch of SIX DEGREES (CD and 2xLP), the album will be released in switzerland, sweden and japan, with france, germany and italy expected to confirm release over the coming week. the japanese release will feature an exclusive bonus track - mark's version of the curtis mayfield classic 'move on up' featuring vocalist cherie mathieson.

mark is now based in west london. as well as the SIX DEGREES album release and tour plans to showcase SIX DEGREES LIVE to fresh audiences in the UK, europe and japan, mark is working on new projects with phil asher (including co-writing a new deep-house EP phil is doing for the label classic), IG culture, dego (4hero), nathan haines, seiji and others. he also has a two-track 12 coming out on seminal west london label people records mid year featuring mixes of 'better days' (featured on kog transmissions' algorhythm 2) and b-side track 'chocolate sunday' and is currently in the studio recording an exclusive track for a japanese compilation.

planning to tour NZ up to twice a year, watch out for mark's brief visits. with future collaboration plans including king kapisi (kapisi's album track 'method of my madness' - co-written and co-produced by mark - has inspired the pair to take it further), manuel bundy (partner in crime with mark and imon star as nuvonesia) and cherie mathieson, there's still much music to make in NZ. HQ however, is now london.

with SIX DEGREES about to be released internationally, mark de clive-lowe is one of the new faces on the global beatscene - taking NZ music to the rest of the world.
