Pure n' Sexy
Returning to the club calendar this month is Pure n Sexy, a club night with
style & a long history. From it's birth nearly 5 years ago, Pure n Sexy has
always been about the people..
From its house roots, Pure n Sexy has travelled the spectrum, covering
Trance, Breaks, Electro & more throughout it's journeys. One of the most
successful Nationwide Tours of any NZ clubbing brand was the Pure n Sexy
winter tour in 2002, with packed dancefloors across the land cementing the
brand in NZ club culture. Now, Pure n Sexy makes it's long awaited 2005
return for a weekend of House Anthems. Resident DJs & Pure n Sexy creators,
Sam Hill & Jolyon Petch are again piloting this House Heavyweight for an
exclusive back 2 back voyage.
This will be the first time in almost 4 years that Sam Hill returns to
Christchurch after rocking 800+ people at the Ministry for the first Pure n
Sexy tour alongside Jolyon.
Unlike his Counterpart Jolyon has played in Christchurch after the Pure n'
Sexy tour under his own brand 'Infusion Magazine's 100th Issue Tour' @
Mansion. This saw him rock the capacity 400+ crowd till the early hours.
With Both Sam Hill & Jolyon Petch scheduled to make a one off appearance in
Christchurch, it looks like it's going to be one helluva party that you
don't want to miss!
Jolyon Petch Biography
Theres not much that Jolyon hasn't accomplished in New Zealand, he's a DJ,
music producer, magazine publisher, party promoter & big time party animal.
His musical background started over 13 years ago playing the piano & drums
in school orchestras & funk, ska bands. It wasn't until the late 90's till
Jolyon started honing his skills over the decks & playing parties in the
under ground rave scene.
Dj'ing in back bars of clubs & parties, Jolyon's reputation for spinning up
sexy swingin' beats were getting him more work around town, by 2000 he had
already Dj'ed in most of the bars around Auckland and his profile was
getting bigger. March 2000, Jolyon launched Infusion magazine into the
Auckland club scene. The fortnightly magazine is often refered to by people
in the know as the only NZ dance bible; covering dance events, nationwide
gig guides, photos, interviews and much more.
This also came at a time when Jolyon was discovering his love for all styles
of dance music, often being booked as a party Dj, playing House, breaks,
prog & Trance. Having such an open mind to playing all forms of dance music
opened up bigger challenges for him, such as the politics in the scene.
However this did not deter him from sometimes playing 3 multi genre gigs a
night.
Hassling promoters to give him a set worked in favour one day when he was
asked to become a resident Dj at the famous Bed nightclub on K-Rd. This was
his first major club residency.
Here he honed his skills over the decks for over a year and a half playing
to crowds regularly of up to 800 weekly. After a year of playing at Bed,
Jolyon & long time friend Sam Hill started a coinciding night 'Pure n' Sexy'
on the Friday which meant Jolyon now had a double residency Fridays &
Saturdays at the most happening club in Auckland.
Here he also started taking more and more bookings for the touring super
clubs and international DJ acts playing in the back bars. Although it
wasn't long before Jolyon starting taking main stage bookings supporting
countless International DJ's and in the process maturing himself into the A
grade league of Dj's in New Zealand.
Jolyon has had top Dj billings and has performed at Ministry of Sound, Two
Tribes, Cream, Slinky, Gatecrasher, Velvet, Decadence, Lagered!, The Brain,
Ourhouse, Vibes on a summers day, Deep Hard n' funky, Chemistry, Unity,
Discothequé, Renaisance, Ourhouse, along with many top local events
including his own hugely successful promoted events, Glamour, High Rollers,
Style Deluxé, Glisten, The Big Club night Out, the House Sessions & Infusion
House parties & his successful - Pure n' Sexy.
On the tip of international DJ's, producers who hasn't Jolyon supported?
Heres a few that he has, Judge Jules, Lucien Foort, Groove Terminator,
X-Press 2, Seb Fontaine, John 00' Fleming, Armin Van Buuren, Guy Ornadel,
the Sharp Boys, Lee Dagger, Sash!, Darude, The Thrillseekers, Daniel Soto,
Bexta, Jen - E, Graham Gold, Airwave, Signum, Lisa Lashes, Dave Lea, Pete
Wardman, Steve Hill aka Mr Bishi, Agnelli & Nelson, Warp Brothers, Dj Slick,
Vixen, Chris Kross, Nik Fish, DJ Law & Mark Dynamix, Declan Lee, Spencer
Parker, Bimbo Jones to name a few. But his all time favourite support acts
were for the Together gig where he played alongside Grand master Flash,
Armand Van Helden & Junior Sanchez on the main stage of the St James. Plus
he toured with Groove Armada live In concert.
Jolyon played main stage at Slinky New Years two years in a row educating
the huge crowds with his blends of House, breaks into trance. Both years saw
him play to over 2000 people in the main room at the Auckland town hall, and
the first year 2001/02 he played four hours on the main stage. Not many
other top local Dj's can boast those kind of honours.
In June 2002 Jolyon & Sam Hill took 'Pure n' Sexy out of the club & onto the
road, with a complete Nationwide tour taking in Auckland, Tauraunga, New
Plymouth, Ohakune, Wellington, Christchurch & Queenstown. The tour was a
huge success. Two months later Jolyon was asked to mix his first CD for
dance event company 'One Green Apple' and was back on another comprehensive
nationwide tour promoting his mix CD with fellow Dj Andy Day, the CD sold
over 3000 unit's.
The CD started off Jolyon's career in music production as he recorded a
track for the CD. 'Calling 2002'
Then 2003 was a busy year for him, playing at Two Tribes, Slinky Planet,
Chemistry, Unity, Vibes on a summers day, Ourhouse. Pure n' Sexy moved to
'Suite 16'(Which is now Code NightClub). Jolyon also toured around the
country on various gigs.
2004 saw Jolyon's music production talents come to fruition with remixing an
ELO classic tune 'Evil Women', & passing on a copy to superstar Dj Judge
Jules, not knowing he was going to drop it main stage of the huge dance
festival 'Homelands & live on BBC Radio1. Along with this great acheivement
for this upcoming producer other Dj's around New Zealand were playing his
tunes Peter Urlich, Sam Hill, Roger Perry & more. Jolyon Also took up
Residency at The Met Nightclub & soon had a regular following on a weekly
basis mixing his own productions up throughout his sets, setting dancefloors
alight where ever he played.
2005 saw Jolyon leave his residency at The Met to become the booking agent
for night clubs Starzz & Velvet Underground. His productions as Sound
Conducterz are lighting up dancefloors around the world with Dj's In Cyprus,
Dubai & New Zealand playing his tunes. Some Dj's that are playing his tunes
in 2005 are Dick Johnson, Peter Urlich, Sam Hill, Karn Hall, Javed Haider,
Andy Barr, General Lee, Grant Marshall, Emma Green & Jarrod Phillips.
