On Saturday December 3rd 1994, Wellington's waterfront Shed 21 was transformed into a transcendental time hole to the pyramids.
The Gate, from the minds of Eden united 1800 revellers, many of whom journeyed from around the north and south islands, to partake in a progressive adventure into optic and audio art. An undescribable air of goodwill and unity provided the right atmosphere for an all encompassing mystery-land environment.
In July of this year, Eden productions hosted a subversive interstellar dance party of epic proportions delivering forward thinking music for forward thinking people, Eclipse provided an unprecedented live performance from German based producer, artist and all round analog sound pirate Thomas P Heckmann. Joining him were top techno and trance navigators from Wellington, Christchurch, Auckland and Sydney, together forcing the universes oldest and strongest element into alignment.
With the 1995 summer session in clear sight, Eden productions (with assistance from like minded souls) prepare to unveil THE GATE II: THE SUN MACHINE. This journey promises even more diversity and stimulation for the ever increasing number of techno tribes and travellers throughout the country. Staged within twin waterfront sheds 11 and 13, the event will pay homage to Stonehenge and the universal theme of time. The Sun Machine will highlight the here and now, sights and sounds of the infonet world and the dream to boldly go where no wo/man has gone before - for pleasure only.
Time Zone 1: The Temple of the Druids
Time Zone One, dubbed The Temple Of The Druids ( relating to the Stonehenge setting and backdrops) will be the lead environment for all things hard and hypnotic. Headlining the bill, London based/Kiwi ex-pat techno unit I.C.U. (Sawtooth records) will play a live PA with visual feeds. Joining them via vinyl selection will be home grown techno visionary Mechanism (now based in Australia) who has returned for the I.C.U. New Zealand tour (presented by Pulse records) and the imminent release of his own album on Pulse.
Other time pilots include Wellington's Headstrong Crew (Active 89fm) - Coda, Zero and OMR; Tjaden from Sinewaves; Live act LRS, as well as Auckland based breakwizard, Aaron (The country's original jungle prophet). Visual stimulation comes from pioneering Wellington visual FX team, Hypnotech (Care of AVS services) who are joined the Christchurch based Inner Phase laser systems.
TIME PILOTS: CODA . TJADEN . ZERO . OMR (wellington)
AARON - EXIT AUCKLAND
LRS sound system - LIVE
Time Zone 2: The Outer Limits
Time Zone Two, entitled The Outer Limits provides an alternative sound system and environment. The music policy spans funky freestyle techno, chicago house and oulandish electronica. A live set from Wellington electro set Oblique will complement vinyl navigation from the Oversoul Chill System (Ex Auckland), Goosebump (Outer Roots Foundation), and OMR/Zero/LRS.
The Environmental setting will be space age futurism, offering a cafe installation and Sony Playstation Terminals care of Future Games.
