Ninja Tune: STEALTH ** Ninja Tune Stealth Tour October 1997 sees the first ever official full scale Ninja Tune Stealth Tour across New Zealand. There will be 2 Ninja Tune acts, 4 turntables, 2 mixers, and more beats than you can point a tone-arm at. Venues around the country will be transformed into Ninja DJ dojos by master turntabilists` Ollie and Jake from The Herbaliser, alongside the James Bond of the jungle jenerayshon, Amon Tobin. During the nights of Stealth each of the 3 Ninjas will invade dancefloors with the combined Ninja weaponry of Hip Hop, Funk, Wild Jazz and Jungle beats. The attack will be completed with the famous NINJA TUNE 4 DECK MIXING SPECTACULAR that has already conquered Europe and the UK. OLLIE TEEBA -A love of anything phat and jazzy brought Ollie Teeba and Jake Wherry together to form The Herbaliser back in 1992. New Zealand took to The Herbalisers` brand of B-boy beats and cheeky jazz loops immediately, and the single "The Blend", taken from their second long-player "Blow Your Headphones", has been a huge success here with high rotation playlisting on the all-important SRN and great reviews in local music press. Ollie Teeba was unanimously voted the highlight of the Australian "Vibes On A Summers Day" tour in 1995. The Herbaliser now tour Europe regularly as a live 7-piece band, with Ollie out front on turntables. Last year Ollie compiled the "Classic Hip Hop Mastercuts" for the Beechwood label and Volume 2 is currently in production. Undoubtedly, Ollie Teeba is one of the wickedest DJs in the world today. His tricknological turntable skills were learned as a teenager cutting and scratching with two 7" singles on crappy turntables. Now sometimes his hands are just a blur on the decks, and you can`t believe that someone is doing these tricks live. Ollie isn`t just half of the Herbaliser. He is an institution and an international Hip Hop treasure. JAKE WHERRY -The production genius behind The Herbaliser, Jake Wherry grew up in South London on a diet of rare grooves, jazz and James Brown. He built the Train Trax studio in 1992 in a Twickenham warehouse and hasn`t looked back since, having remixed DJ Food, Raw Stylus and the incredible 'Post Nuclear After-Life Lounge' mix of Coldcut "Atomic Moog" which went to #1 in the NME chart earlier this year. Jake is a respected turntable terrorist in his own right, and when the two Herbalisers run four decks at Stealth you can be sure the sparks will fly. AMON TOBIN -Amon Tobin is known as the James Bond of the Jungle Jenerayshon. He is Brazilian born, Europe travelled and now resident of Brighton, because he doesn`t want to be too far from the sea. Amon Tobin (yes, his real name) has many other aliases, including Cujo, under which he records experimental excursions for Ninebar Records. If you want to know where he`s been, what he`s done and how he feels, just listen to "Bricolage" on Ninja Tune. It`s all there. The Ninja Tune Stealth Tour cuts across New Zealand with the valued assistance of Workshop Denim and Flying In from 8-11 October.Capacity on all venues is STRICTLY LIMITED so get tickets early.
