Half way thru the last Psurkit, wired off our ants, Eve and Me came up with the concept for PlusPlus... in geekspeak, Add One. Most of the time, Obscure doesn't plan the party, we just come up with a name or poster we like... then we have to do a party to go with it...

djs Coda, Tjaden and The Navigator Zero had been captured by the swarming troids...

Wellingtronika's only hope for these agents of Humana was to call Halogen back from her training in the north...

With her recruits Whinge, she sped down to the city... her only clue was a garbled message on an old unit of vinyl... "meet on the corner of Tory and Lorne, where you will be guided to the secret base..."

Encountering networker Cyrus, Halogen and Whinge made their way to PlusPlus where along with the Headstrong together they conquer the forces of Troid once again...

The first thing that we usually have to suss out is a venue... that usually requires connections in the seedy underworld of Wellingtronika...

I've got this friend called Harry Death... Harry's been an icon on the dodgy Wellington guitar underground for the last ten years or so. I met him in the rock scene, somehow when he was putting out a magazine called catastrophe in C minor that i did layout on. Although pretty damn twisted, Harry's a cool guy and we have a mutual understanding that gives us many laughs and in-jokes.

Somehow I found out that Harry was moving in to a new premesis and maybe he wanted to do a party there, so after catching trainspotting me and teth went and checked out the space... and it was wicked

On the first floor of where there used to be a print shop, two long hall shaped rooms in parallel - perfect space for a chill and a dancefloor. I sorted a date with Harry and got busy... My only concern was the noveau city dwellers and that maybe they'd call noise control.

When I went up to Auckland last, I promised my old friend Halogen Girl that I get her to play at the next party I did, so she was first on the list... Psurkit parties also have an ethic of supporting local electronica, and connecting the Auckland and Wellington scenes, so Halo's friends Whinge, who play the typical Auckland style of banging, slighty trancy acid were next up...

As usual, DJ politics surround who gets to play where and when... I love to work with to same school I have since Biosphere... Zero, Coda and Tjaden... they are my friends and all move the crowd more than most... Newcomer Cyrus - responsible for importing much fine vinyl in to the city also deserved a place in the line-up after a great showing at the original Psurkit.

We've been meaning to do a 'secret location' for ages... Wellingtronika is so small you don't need to walk for hours to find a venue, and because of the possibility of changing venue from the noise control problem and the thought that Harry might bail out at the last minute, I thought, well hell, why not... Our running joke was 'well, we don't actually have a venue yet..." the map point (and the amount of durrrs that asked "what's a map point" when they brought their tickets...) was only a minute's walk from the venue...

It was Saturday... I'd done two 48 hour days in a row mastering the CD and going to work... I'd had some sleep, but not much, and I wasn't going to get any for the next 48 either.

Down at the venue, and helpers dribbled in. We went and got the PA and fucked our backs lugging six bass bins and more up two flights of stairs. Rhys did his lighting thing, like a god of electriity, as usual. Missioning around the city with only a video camera for company, me and teth tied up some loose ends and cruised by Ban Dong for thes essential malaysian dinner. Whinge got lost and missed out on that vital Wellingtronika foodstuff

Soon we found that we were short a deck, it was almost eight, doors opened at ten. Me and Zero raced up to his house to get a 1200... on the way back a cat... I saw it hiding behind a car and then make a run for it across the road and right under the front of the van. I braked, but couldn't stop. Thwack. End of cat. A rather shaken Zero got dropped off at Radio Active and I drive slowly back to the venue in time for opening

As usual, kids started turning up early "come back soon... come back soon"... by ten there was a torrent of them. Cyrus banged away on his chi-town tip, followed by the Spunky as Halogen's Detroit set... PlusPlus was go. I went home for a shower and a brief chill out and spark-up...

The night went on and on with no drama... Zero, Coda, and the Mighty Whinge pulling off a fault free live set... Harry and his flatmates didn't know what had hit them... they just sat in the back room drinkin' an' a smokin' and eventually passed out...

Hanging round, scanning video, framegrabbing to strands of photek we watched the masses move, Tjaden arrived from work at the cafe to hammer his point home in true form.

All of a sudden it was dawn, only the hard core, or those that were waiting for the first bus home remained. I kept putting on records while we were packing down until eventually the sound system had to be dismantled... Shattered but happy we packed lights and speakers and tried to clear up the disaster zone that remained before cruising off to Eva's for breakfast and a nap...

We got back to find Rhys has unwired the whole thing, so all we had to do was lug the sound system back down two flights of stairs and in and out of a van... and take the lights home for the weekend... Sunday night finished off with us zoning out in the lounge with an oil-wheel and a datamoon lighting up the room.
