Auckland City

Auckland's Outdoor Scene - Meridian rave in Papakura

An early rise at 7am on Saturday morning saw myself and The LRS hop in a swanky hire car and head north for a party we didn't really know much about.

I was phoned on Tuesday night by Luke, a friend who was running the party with a recently returned Kiwi expat Andee who had been living in Sydney. Luke had finally confirmed this partys existance and was ringing to make sure I was going up. "Of course." I said.

All we knew was it was going to be a long drive which saw us arrive at the extremely hard to find location about 30-40mins drive out of Papakura at around 7pm all up a 9 1/2hr drive. The party started about an hour late and there were still no people showing up. Eventually sounds started and the party was underway, but wait! why is only one deck working?! This was the evenings major drama which took two hours to fix. During this two hours, everyone showed up.

A gold chain of car lights weaved its way down the hill to the site in the beautiful bush clearing drawn by the rancid sounds of Goa chonse. Yup Goa was undoubtedly the flavour for the night.

This being no fault on the organizers part, these fuckwits did save the party by playing their collection of Goa Greatest cds until a new cart was brought in from Auckland. And at last we knew it was going to go somewhere.

The star of the night who'd been flown in from Sydney jumped on. Biz-e Sydneys long time techno star was here for a 2 hour set that put quite simply rocked like no other wickedly tight mixing and fresh new vinyl had this set going off. This alone was a good enough reason to be there.

But all good things come to an end and soon enough one of the most pretentious arse holes I ever had the unfortunate experience of speaking to chonsed us out! for yet another hour of Goa greatest. This guy Kitt virtually pushed Biz-e off the decks so he could have his fill playing tracks that had already been played earlier in the night.

So when I came on and cut his record short before my set he tried to pick a fight with me in front of 200 happy people. Bad Karma Kitt, I thought krustifarians were peace loving con artists.

Nevermind he'll get his beans, every other Goa hating good guy around Auckland wanting to soniclly or physically skullfuk the prized Entrain wanabe can do so at any Auckland party and find him trying get a set good luck to ya.

And on this note thanks heaps to Andee & Luke for having me up there I did enjoy myself bar THE incident good luck for your next gig.

Big Hi's, Bi's, & Hug's also 2 Emma.G, Gideon, Sonic48, Biz-e, D-Lock, Tara, and Sarah.

Also thanks to LRS for the drive up and back.

Tjaden Warden.
