As the severed head of Obscure's Psurkit list rolls off, the DJs wave their records in the air, and the crowd goes wild at the prospect of May... May has been booked up for months, so get your coatchecks ready, here we come... We bid a sad farewell to seminal dance store Troubadour last month, a big thanks to Jeff, Nick and Steve for starting it all, and creating an amazing outlet for Wellington vinyl junkies. Dancing has been virtually dormant on any regular basis, what with hardly any venues...

May first (Mayday) brings the South Island's answer to Audio Active to town for MayDay/A Dub Invasion. Salmonella Dub spread their well oiled dancefloor muscle, over The James Cabaret. Mayday is an all ages attack, Supported by booty shakin Coneheads who made their unannounced debut at The ESC last Christmas eve, Featuring members of the supergroups Shihad, Head Like A Hole, Breathe and Hell Is Other People. owch! Shindig, the second party in May, 02 sees Clinton Smiley, John Saunders and Simon Oakley take the floor for a night of excessive house at The Fishbowl.

Long Irie beats uproots The Matterhorn for a remarkable melding of Reggae and Country music on Sat 9th May-Bought to you by the Longhorny Beats chorale. Combinations announces its venue on may 9th also, check out all the fantabulous double-ups from Wellington's breaking stars.

The Matterhorn have Movies every Sunday Night, Wellington Weather permitting... and look out for The Matterhorn's first birthday in July. Wellington radio has been going crazy over a locally produced drum and bass remix called Methodread, Radio Active's new programmer Andy sends his plea out to the song's producer/s X-26 - The unknown soldier, "send us more!".

The Incredibly Strange Film Festival opens on May 28th, don't miss a season of monster sex, stunts that go wrong, in-breds, ultra violence and cheesy special fx.

And the last for the month is the Clearlight Collective's epic party AIR on the 30th. In a plight to save the inner city from the proposed Motorway, all funds go the the Campaign For A Better City's legal battle against The City Council. Yip, its big chocka block of parties. phew...
