Mayday
MAYDAY: James Cabaret > FRIDAY 1ST MAY

THE CONEHEADS

- definitely not you average line-up of electro nerds. Ingredients: take four local rock musicians

(Steve Gallagher -Breathe; Phil Knight -Shihad; Craig Terris -Hell Is Other People; Thomas Watson -Head Like A Hole); add four scorching Roland keyboards, percussion, drums and some monstrous breakbeat grooves. Cook on high for 45 minutes and SHAKE YOUR BOOTY. No samples or loops here ladies and gentlemen, The Coneheads are a totally rockin` live electronic groovefest.

SALMONELLA DUB

Established as one of the hottest live acts in New Zealand today, Salmonella Dub are a well oiled rhythm machine whose potent dancefloor muscle operates near the periphery of the rock spectrum. A four strong unit on stage with fifth member Tiki out front running the mixing board, the dubwise musical mechanics of this high octane mainland export are faithfully captured on their 4th and latest CD release "Calming Of The Drunken Monkey".

A benchmark release for NZ music in `98 and a breakthrough album for the band, "Calming of the Drunken Monkey" is a suitably deep and heavy dub/ dance excursion, laid down on the wire between Christchurch and London with production assistance from leading UK mixer David Harrow (aka James Hardway).

With plenty of substance to back up the bravado, Salmonella Dubs` echo-chamber infected dance grooves have seen them win live support for both African Head Charge and The Mad Professor, gig nationwide with Shihad and on their own headlining tours, and also become very firm favourites with the 8000 or so people at the annual New Years "Gathering" music festival in the Nelson Bays area.

Salmonella Dub are a band with a huge future both within New Zealand and overseas; a fiercely live fusion of delicately spaced rhythms and dub-styled mixing board mayhem that refuses to be categorised.
