Discotek presents Kenny Larkin

Discotek are proud to present the man with his finger on the fast forward button of music's future, Kenny Larkin.

Third Wave techno artist Kenny Larkin is the member of a new school of Detroit-based musicians taking the city's famous brand of hard-edged musical futurism to new and innovative areas.

Although he missed out on the style's formative years in the mid- to late '80s due to a stint in the military, Larkin, a Detroit native, was brought up to speed upon his return by the likes of Juan Atkins and Derrick May, the latter of whose weekly radio shows inspired Larkin to pursue music production.

Heavily rooted in house, Larkin quickly incorporated techno's formal characteristics into a brazen-yet-refined style that places his music somewhere in between Detroit and Chicago, combining house's more swinging rhythmic vibe and soft edge with techno's muscular backbeat and experimental zeal.

House music followers in Wellington are gonna love Larkin, as they did with the last Discotek artist, Mark Farina when he recently played at Metro. The vibe was superb, funky soulful cuts, a packed dancefloor and smiley faces epitomized a rocking night in Wellington, Kenny Larkin will be another!

Kenny's warm beats hit in just the right places at just the right time. "A lot of styles of music come out in my moods: jazz, house, it just depends on how I'm feeling," Kenny muses. "A lot of my music is improvised. I just start playing chords and get emotions off that, and then go. All this 180 bpm shit is not how techno was envisioned to be. People like the early Detroit guys and Kraftwerk were showing people their emotions through their music. That's what I'm doing."
