>just who is this guy????

Hey Jen, why don't you ask me who I am. I am Tipene but you can call me Steve. Your message (with the multiple ?) is the same response I got when I visited NZ over New Year. Being Maori/Japanese is uncommon and I am an 'outsider' in both countries but I'm happy with who I am. When I was a kid, my mother worked with YMO. I have done publicity for Audio Active, Tag Rag, Matsuoka Naruhisa, Yamataka Eye. I have done liason work in Japan for foreign DJs and musicians which has given me the opportunity to work with people from Adrian Sherwood to Aussie/Swiss noise musicians.I am currently working in a restaurant and work for Tanuki Media. I joined this news group because I'm interested in musical devlopments in NZ I have learnt little except that people in the electronic music scene are far from open minded which is necessary if you want to have interesting producers and events. Why all the bitching and ego?

I tell you a funny thing Jen. When I met the 'drum and bass' DJs from Chch. they told were not into jungle because it's not their culture. I understand where they are trying to come from but I had to laugh because there used to be some heavy jungle events in Osaka full of Asian people. I thought Japan was supposed to be hung up. I went to a cool record store on K rd. Not a lot of vinyl but the people working their were really nice and friendly. I gave them a copy of the Psychouts first release which I was supposed to distribute while I was there. They gave it back. I was given the AK 97 which is really good. Plese tell me what local music is worth listening to.
