The Black Seeds
Into the Dojo
Album Release Show

Saturday 12 August 2006

"With an easy-skanking party sound, The Black Seeds are a warm reminder of the glories of Herbs and the best of UB40, brought up to date in the shadow of Salmonella Dub and iced with their own messages of hope, hot nights and heaven-sent riddums." - Real Groove

Celebrating the release of their New Album, Into the Dojo, The Black Seeds are set to bring their world-class live show to Christchurch's magnificent Town Hall Auditorium.

As a special guest, The Black Seeds will joined - at this Christchurch show only - by the incredible vocal sensation, Hollie Smith and band.

The Black Seeds
Since forming in 1998, the Wellington-based 7 piece have been impressing audiences all over the world with their unique blend of reggae, dub, funk and soul. They have released Gold and Platinum selling albums, and are one of this country's most sought-after live acts. The Black Seeds are a performance phenomenon to be reckoned with, regularly selling out shows both locally and abroad and winning a swag of NZ music awards in the process.

Albums
The Black Seeds' first album, Keep On Pushing, was voted among Rip It Up Magazine's Top 50 Albums of the Year in 2002. In the same year, the band received 5 nominations at the bNet Awards and won the category of Best Downbeat Release for their tune "Keep On Pushing". Thus far, the album reports Gold sales status.

From their second album, On the Sun , awarded Best Pop Album 2005 at the bNets - the single "So True" became one of the most successful New Zealand releases of 2005 , it was played over 5000 times in one year alone. The video for this song was one of the most highly played on Juice TV, quickly reaching the Number 1 position. It remained C4's highest repeat video 12 months after it was delivered to the airwaves. On the Sun spent 22 weeks in the New Zealand Album Charts after debuting at #3 and as the record reached Double Platinum, The Black Seeds secured their place as one of New Zealand's most respected and acclaimed bands.

Live
Live, The Black Seeds are local and international favourites. Most recently, the band headlined this county's biggest New Years festival, 'Rhythm and Vines', performing to an audience of more than 10,000 fans. They are the only band to sell out a 'Zoo Sessions' show, held at Auckland Zoo, also this year, attracting a 4000-strong crowd.

Overseas the band have charmed the masses playing an 18-show tour throughout Holland, Scotland, England, Ireland and Wales in 2005. The Black Seeds are a major hit in Australia, recently touring 5 times in the country, selling out venues in Sydney, Brisbane, Melbourne and Perth. In Singapore, The Black seeds were a headline act at the Reggae Soundsplash 2004.

Hollie Smith
"She has turned heads with her deep, rich & soulful singing & songwriting, which has drawn praise from all who have had the pleasure of hearing her perform." www.amplifier.co.nz

Having recently made appearances alongside the likes of Fat Freddys Drop, Trinity Roots and as a member of the all-star collective Fly My Pretties, Hollie's soul-filled tones are fast becoming an established NZ musical phenomenon, and have to be experienced to be believed. Currently enjoying success with the single 'Bathe in the River', Hollie and her band are performance bliss - and a perfect accompaniment to the headliners.

The Christchurch Town Hall Auditorium
Previously the home of every school prize giving and everything classical, we are dusting it out and turning up the volume in Christchurch's premium venue. Acoustically amazing, with 360 degree views, it is one of New Zealand's very finest performance spaces.
