Mateo and Matos

Mateo and Matos are the definitive sound of underground house music. With over 60 releases on many labels including Glasgow Underground, Nervous, Large, Nite Grooves, Spiritual Life and Under The Counter, they are prolific producers who have met with great success worldwide.

Both met in the late 70's and soon after developed close links with the house great Little Louie Vega (Masters at Work) with whom they learned their craft in the studio. They later met the legendary Larry Levan who was playing the famous Loft and Paradise Garage in NYC during the 80's. It was during this period that djing took over their lives.

John Mateo and Eddie Matos have recorded on every major independent label in NYC since they began producing in 1989. They have produced several albums on Glasgow Underground starting with New York Rhythms and New York Rhythms 2 and followed by The Many Shades of Mateo & Matos. All are not to be missed for an education in house music. They now have their own new label United Underground House Sounds. Their latest release is the After Midnight EP released on Large records in January this year.

Having played here in Wellington several times already, Mateo & Matos are back for another blend of house tracks peppered with Latin, disco and soul. Don't miss out on a journey through the some of the best house music you will hear this year from dj's and producers who have been around since its beginnings....
