"The Earthdance parties could be likened to Live Aid with dance music"
Time Out, London October 14th, 2000 will be the host to the fourth annual Earthdance, a one day GLOBAL DANCE PARTY uniting over 80 cities in 40 countries. The event was created with the aim of uniting the positive energy of electronic music and dance culture in support of world peace and healing.
This year's Earthdance will focus on four global causes: The environment, the indigenous peoples, the well being of children and Tibet. All the parties will happen around the planet simultaneously with the highlight of the event being a synchronized dance floor link up (12 midnight GMT), when every DJ in every city plays a special track called "the Prayer for Peace" at the same time.
This incredible moment will unite all dancefloors and will be broadcast live over the internet during a special 12 hour webcast. The results of last year's Earthdance were staggering with 58 cities in 35 countries taking part from London to Tokyo, Los Angeles to Moscow and Sao Paulo to Kazakhstan.
The Earthdance website highlighted the scale of the event with a world map flashing up the locations of each party. Through the power of the internet, audiences everywhere were able to "point and click" on a country and hear the sounds of Earthdance celebrations in every nation. The 12 hour Earthdance webcast received a total of over 1.3 million hits with media coverage extending from TV and radio to national broadsheets.
To commemorate this year's event, CyberOctave Records/Virgin will release the Earthdance 2000 compilation CD (USA release date Sept 20th), with tracks donated by leading artists from the electronic scene including:- Moby, Underworld, Medicine Drum, Groove Armada and more. The compilation will also include the first-time ever release of a bonus DVD/CD-ROM containing a 1-hour documentary movie on the history of Earthdance. The DVD/CD, sponsored by Immersion New Media, will also incorporate the latest in Hybrid technology with immediate links to websites as the movie is playing.
All profits from the sale of the compilation will be donated to the four causes that Earthdance 2000 is supporting. Earthdance has united the electronic dance scene like never before showing the world the positive spirit behind today's youth culture and new technology.
