DJ Information:
FILTER:
Filter (Phil) has been a part of the NZ dance music scene since the mid nineties.
Initially playing techno to the big rave crowds in his hometown of Christchurch, his sound has been defined through 7 years of experience to his current blend of deep and tech house, breaks and latin rythms.
A dynamic performer behind the decks, Phil's energetic sets and tight mixing skills have made him the first choice to support visiting international techno and house artists around New Zealand, including H-Foundation, Terry Francis, Colin Dale, Inland Knights, Evil Eddie Richards, Tom Middleton, and many others.
Now based in Wellington, Phil's selection is informed by an early love of live percussion, jazz, and classical music.
Phil went on an international tour in 2001, and venues played included Our House (Los Angeles), Deepen @ The Lotus (Vancouver), Neptune Soundbar (Victoria, BC), Fukhouse @ NASA (Toronto), Texture (Austin), and Eden (Singapore).
Locally, Phil's promotional involvements include The Gathering, NZ's largest New Years Festival. For the last five years, Phil has managed the "House Tent", (the house, funk and techno zone at this massive event), coordinating dozens of national and international DJ's and Live Acts to fill the 48 hour roster each year.
Filter has some exciting international prospects coming for 2002 - watch this space!
ROGER PERRY:
We were last graced with Rogers DJ Skills in May 2001, playing alongside Derrick Carter's (Classic) label partner Luke Solomon - it's been a while for Wellington, so get set for a night of supreme House action...
Roger Perry is one of New Zealands longest playing DJ's, starting his career back in the day when he started playing at a club run by Russ Le Roq (now known as Russell Crowe).
Rogers name became connected with all the best clubs during the 80's, Club Mirage, The Asylum, The Playground and The Siren to name just a few.
He spent some time in the UK during the early 90's, returning here in '93, hooking up with the Stylee Crew, a DJ Posse comprised of DLT, Stinky Jim, Dubhead & Slowdeck.
Roger then drifted away from House - a style of music that he was particularly fond of - but was drawn back to it when Lightspeed's Chris ODonahue asked him to mix a tape with some of Chris's records which were fuelled by funk.
He started DJ'ing at Calibre nightclub, building its enviable reputation reputation as the happening place for House sounds in the city of sails.
Late 2000 saw the release of 'BPM Mix 02', a collection of Rogers favourite DJ tunes covering a bunch of funky dance gems, mixing overseas and local sounds seamlessly. Included in this CD are some of Rogers own cpmpositions, put together with Joost Langveld (Unitone Hi-Fi, Subware) as Reactor Music.
Roger moved into production in early 2001 with the aquisition of an Akai MPC 2000 sampler. Some of his production work have been released overeseas on vinyl
and have also featured on the 'Algorythm' compilations from Kog Transmissions, whom he has also worked with under the 'Toolbox' and 'Kingsland Housing Project' monikers.
2002 has seen Roger playing all over Auckland, including Eacio, Insomnia and Calibre.
We are pleased to have him in Welllington to rock SubNine.
